    TOGAF and Solution Architectute?
EA TOGAF and Solution architecture

The original context for TOGAF is for EA and EA projects. But what about Solution Architecture projects or Integration Architecture projects? Why not leverage the TOGAF ADM for those cycles as well?

As you can probably tell, my personal recommendation is to indeed leverage the ADM for those activities & projects as well. Why? For me the answer is almost "Why Not?"

- It extends the value of the TOGAF adoption;
- Much stronger alignment between strategy and implementation;
- Improves the architecture repository consistency for your SBB's & ABB's.

In most of my TOGAF implementations my clients ended up with several 'tailored ADM frameworks' for each of the architecture activities: A tailored ADM for core architecture strategy initiatives, another ADM for solution architecture projects, another ADM for roadmaps etc. Of course there is always only one 'master' tailored ADM framework that is the superset of these smaller activity driven frameworks.

If you do this properly you will end up with a solid TOGAF aligned EA practice that is also on the implementation side useful & aligned. Maybe the term tailored ADM is a little misused here, some of my partners & colleagues use the term "Flight paths through the TOGAF ADM" for these activity driven mini ADM's.
